Do you need to change any wires to update headlights from normal to halogen?

i drive a 2000 Dodge Neon, and its red, I'm a teen and the headlights on the car are weathered and i though why not upgrade. i do not plan to get rid of this car in the late, nor near future. i was just curious to know it there was any different wiring to do with it because i do not wish to search the internet for hours watching partial videos on what not to do. I'm not about to ask the dad about what to do because he doesn't like to "tamper with the original." back to the subject. i was wondering if you needed new wiring, anything new? or can you just take out the old and put in the new ones?
