Am i reading this right? and why did he do it?

people have discussed this for millenia, and it is not real clear. 'Uncovering your father's nakedness' (in some contexts) means sleeping with your mother. which would explain a bad result for the resulting 'grandson'. It is also possible that something was mis transcribed many years ago, and no one knew how to 'correct' it.
