Halogen lights are incandescent lights that are filled with a halogen gas that produce light by heating a tungsten wire. The halogen gas causes the vaporized tungsten to redeposit on the wire. The light from halogen lamps is whiter than a regular incandescent bulb. Fluorescent lights use heating elements on each end of the tube to heat the mercury into a vapor which emits ultraviolet light. the calcite coating inside the tube absorbs ultraviolet light and emits white light. Fluorescent lights emit the same amount of light for less than a quarter of the electricity.
